Matanzas is roughly halfway between touristy Varadero, and Havana . It's a small industrial town with one hotel; the hotel "Louvre". Just next door is the "Triolet" pharmacy. Staying in this hotel is like living in a museum. Beautiful furniture, air conditioners that sound like a 1950's Chevy engine, only one light bulb, intermittent running water and no toilet paper! It's in these non-touristy places, that you realize how poor this country has become. How hard life must be for Cubans trying to survive this system…and the embargo. |
