Murdoch Hall

Photographed spring 2003

We stepped out of the elevator on the 19th floor, then climbed the last 2 flights of stairs to the roof.

The view from the roof was breathtaking. This warm-hearted man had almost made me forget the cold world outside.

Drizzle, the Pulaski skyway, Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty welcomed me. There I stood on top of this prestigious building made from shiny marble by the poorest men and women in the 1930's, overlooking the center of power of this planet while the poorest of today's society seek shelter in this very building and American soldiers fight in Iraq ... this is a complicated world.

I took my guide by surprise when I took his photo : he posed instinctively, resting his arms on a fictional desk.
